Iowa Real Estate License
If you would like to receive your real estate license in Iowa you need to be a minimum of 18 years old. You also must complete a 60 hour course that is approved by the Iowa commission of real estate. A background check is required to start the process of obtaining your license. You will need to pay a license fee of $125. You also must not have been rejected for licensure in Iowa or any other state within twelve months prior to the date of your application. Licenses will be issued for three years. All individual licenses expire on December 31.
You must successfully complete the approved 60-hour pre-license course in real estate education during the 12 months prior to taking the salesperson examination. The 60 hour course is required to have:
Introduction to Real Estate Iowa License Law – 12hrs.
Ownership, Encumbrances, Legal Descriptions, Transfer of Title and Closing – 12hrs.
Contracts, Agency and Antitrust – 12hrs.
Valuation, Finance and Real Estate Math – 12hrs.
Property Management/Leasing, Fair Housing, Environmental Risks, and Health Isssues- 12hrs.
Real Estate Broker License
Becoming a broker requires more education. You will need to be at least 18 years old and you will need to be involved in real estate sales for at least 24 months preceding your date of application. You will need to successfully complete 60 hours of courses that are approved by the state. Like the salesperson license you will need to complete a background check.
Iowa has reciprocity agreements with the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Main, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, north Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wyoming.
