The following types of students are often
attracted to what our institution offers:
Students who are eager to complete a
training program designed to prepare
individuals within three to nine months for
an administrative office support position in
either the business, legal or medical field.
Students who are interested in learning and
higher education, but whose immediate desire
to develop employable skills takes priority
over the goal of committing to a long-term
educational commitment.
The programs at Harris School of Business
are compact and intensive. Through
completion of a short-term training program
at our institution, students can develop
confidence and a foundation for life-long
learning through on-the-job training or
going on to college for higher education.
Mission and Objectives
The Harris School of Business dedicates
itself to providing our students with
quality post-secondary training so that they
may have the necessary skills and knowledge
to obtain administrative support positions
leading to a successful career in the
business and/or professional world.
Our objectives are:
To offer curriculums which prepare students
for successful employment in a modern office
environment; to maintain the quality of our
instructional programs through utilizing
qualified instructors and updating the
curriculums as needed; to motivate our
students to grow personally and
professionally, while fostering an
appreciation for the attitudes and work
ethic which are desirable for successful
employment; and to maintain connections with
the community so that our training and
placement efforts will be attuned to serving
the needs of our students and their
potential employers.
History
The school was founded by Ethel S. Harris,
and it continues today to be owned and
managed by two of her children. After being
widowed at a young age with three children,
Mrs. Harris made the decision to start her
own business in order to support her family.
She founded Harris Employment Service in
1959 in Camden, New Jersey. The school was
later established in 1965 as a training
extension to the placement services which
were provided to clients of the employment
service. The school obtained national
accreditation in 1978 and moved in 1980 to
its present location on Route 38 in Cherry
Hill, New Jersey, where it continues to
serve the local community.
It is no coincidence that a family
atmosphere and caring environment are two of
the school's most enduring qualities. This
is a family-owned business whose founder
knew first-hand the importance of having
employable skills to support oneself and
one's family. From the school's inception,
the founder and her successors have had a
special regard for people in transition who
want to succeed in spite of obstacles.
The school has continuously provided quality
training to thousands of people since its
founding in 1965. Its community base and
excellent reputation with employers are two
of the reasons why a diploma from Harris
School of Business can open doors of
opportunity for its graduates.
Admission Procedures
The standard requirement for admission is a
high school diploma or its equivalent, a GED
certificate. Other considerations for
acceptance are the applicant's ability to
successfully complete a curriculum within
the allotted time frame, as well as the
appropriateness of the program in preparing
an applicant for his or her stated career
goal.
Prior Learning Credit
Harris School of Business is committed to
helping its students complete their training
objective without needless repetition of
previously learned skills obtained through
on-the-job training or prior education. For
that reason, our institution considers the
time spent with prospective students in the
admissions interview to be very important in
selecting the appropriate program for their
needs.
Incoming students with advanced skills or
prior education may be eligible to waive
some courses toward a diploma at this
institution. If you have advanced skills and
believe you may be a candidate for Prior
Learning Credit, inform the Admissions
Representative. It would be helpful if you
can bring your most recent resume or
transcript from a previous institution to
the admissions interview.
